Looking after the finish afterwards

Looking after the finish afterwards

A cured powder coat is tough, but brake dust and road salt still settle on it every time you use the car. Wash the wheels with a cleaner made for alloys and a soft brush, and rinse them well, including the inner barrel and the gaps between the spokes. Through winter, rinse the salt off more often than you would in summer. Each wash is also a chance to look over the rims, because a fresh kerb mark or chip spotted early is a smaller job than one left to spread under the coating.

Ready when you are

Powder coating takes 36 to 48 hours, so send a photo of the wheels and the finish you have in mind.

Powder coating questions from East London

Does any of the work get sent out to another company?
Everything stays with us at Crown Road. The stripping, repairs, coating and oven cure are all done by our own team.
What does curing at 180°C actually do?
The heat bonds the powder to the bare metal and leaves a thicker, harder finish than wet paint. That is what helps it stand up to stone chips and brake dust.
Do you work on vans and company cars?
We coat wheels for personal and commercial vehicles, with competitive bulk rates for trade and fleet customers. Call 0207 060 3666 to talk it through.
