Can a cracked alloy wheel be repaired?
Sometimes. A crack is a safety issue, so a wheel is only repaired when it can be made safe, and a wheel with a serious crack should be replaced.
What decides whether a crack can be welded
Where the crack sits matters most. Position, length and the number of cracks all count, as does the condition of the rest of the wheel.

Frequently asked questions
Is a welded alloy wheel safe?
It can be, when the crack suits welding and the work is done and checked properly. A single crack in the rim is the usual candidate. Cracks in the spokes or hub area, or several cracks, usually mean the wheel should be replaced, and we will say so.
Can a hairline crack be repaired?
Sometimes. A short hairline crack at the rim edge may be welded, but one that runs into the barrel or the spokes may not be. We need to inspect it, because hairline cracks often run further than they look.
How can I tell if a crack is dangerous?
Treat every crack as dangerous until it has been checked. A crack that is growing, makes the tyre lose air or comes with a vibration needs attention before you drive any further.
Do all cracks look the same?
No. A crack can be a fine hairline on the face, a split at the rim edge or a break on the inner barrel that you only see from behind. Where it sits decides the outcome more than how long it is.
Is repair or replacement better?
If the wheel can be repaired safely, repair is often the better route, because it keeps your original wheel and its finish. If it cannot, replacement is the safe answer.
