Why a respray varies so much

A car respray is mostly preparation. The cost follows how many panels are painted and how much work the surface needs before any colour goes on. Metallic and pearl paints take more care to match than solid colours. A single panel respray costs less than a whole car, and many jobs need only one or two panels. Repair or replace a bumper

Scuffs and many cracks can be repaired and repainted. A bumper that is badly split or missing fixings may need replacing, which changes the parts and the work involved. We repair or replace depending on the damage, and tell you which in your quote.

Paying privately or going through insurance

The two routes work differently. For small repairs, the excess can match most of the cost, so paying privately is often simpler. For larger damage, a claim may be worth making. Our accident repair page has more on that route. Major collision repairs are outside what we take on, but if there's structural damage, send photos and we'll tell you whether we can help.
  • Private repair. You get a price from your photo, approve it and pay on completion by cash, card or bank transfer.
  • Insurance claim. Your policy and excess decide what you pay. Most policies let you choose your repairer; check yours. Then tell your insurer you'd like Whoops Wheel Fix It to repair your car and we'll deal with them from there.

How much does bumper repair cost?
It depends on whether the bumper is scuffed or split, and on your paint colour. A split bumper is repaired or replaced depending on the damage.
Is dent repair cheaper than a respray?
Often yes, when the paint is unbroken and the dent can be worked out. If the paint is cracked, the area also needs repainting.
Should I claim on insurance or pay myself?
Check your policy and your excess. If the repair costs little more than the excess, paying privately may suit you better.
