Soon, because water and road salt reach the metal once the lacquer breaks, and corrosion then spreads beneath the finish. A small repair done early costs less effort than a bigger one later, and a photo tells us what yours needs.

Can a photo show enough to price the repair?

For most damage it can, provided you include the whole wheel and a close-up in good light. When a bend or crack needs a closer look, our reply says so.

Is pothole damage always visible on the wheel?
