What diamond cut alloys are

Diamond cut alloys have a machined face. After painting, the front of the wheel is turned on a CNC lathe to expose bright metal, giving the two-tone look that BMW, Audi, Mercedes and VW fit as standard. A thin layer of lacquer protects that bare metal. Once it lifts, water gets underneath and corrosion spreads, and the longer it's left the more metal is lost.

Why diamond cut repair needs a lathe

Hand tools and polishing only clean corrosion off the surface. The face looks patchy afterwards in certain light, and fresh lacquer struggles to bond to it. Re-cutting the face on a CNC lathe restores the finish the factory gave it, using the same method that made the wheel in the first place.

How can I tell if my wheels are diamond cut?
Look at the face in good light. A bright, machined finish with fine circular lines and a darker painted barrel means your wheels are diamond cut.
Can my diamond cut wheels be repaired?
Most can. The face needs enough metal left for another cut, and your photo usually tells us whether it has.
How long will the repair last?
With regular cleaning it keeps its finish. Road salt and brake dust left on the wheel are the main causes of lifting, so rinse them off with a pH-neutral wheel cleaner.
Why did my last diamond cut repair start peeling?
Usually because the face was polished by hand or the old lacquer was left on. New lacquer can't grip either surface, so it lifts within months. We strip and re-cut every wheel. See all FAQs
